What am I doing now?
Earlier this month I have started the closed beta of my website monitoring system, Bernard. After 6 weeks of crunch, I am now re-prioritising, figuring out the next steps and hopefully moving towards a healthier and less frantic pace. The reason I am doing this thing in the first place is not to have to spend 40 hours a week writing code. Planning to launch as soon as possible, but it doesn't need to be a grand ceremony: I'd rather go for a stealth launch, with a long, incremental effort to grow into a healthy business.
Still trying to build some good consulting relationships, and the state of the job market these days is a noticeable source of stress.
Ideas to explore
-
The cypherpunk manifesto, crypto-anarchism and agorism, as opposed to the purely academical research of anarchist theory.
-
Homegrown systems to grow fleeting thoughts into established ideas. My thinking is non-linear, associative, ephemeral, and there is no technology good enough to collect this firehose of creativity.
-
Gemini, the small web, and where have all the niche interest groups disappeared to.
On my reading list
The Design of Everyday Things by Don Norman, now that I am spending a lot of time thinking of design and software usability.
